Principal's Message for June 2010!(Click for the Principal's Message) (Haga clic para el mensaje de la directora) Pasta for Pennies Fundraiser Success!
Del Rio Elementary School joined the 253 other schools in San Diego county for the 2010 Olive Garden’s Pasta for Pennies Campaign, a School Youth program of The Leukemia Lymphoma Society. The students of Del Rio raised $2,247.83 to help cure blood cancers and provide patient services. The Leukemia Lymphoma Society wishes to thank all the students, teachers, parents and administrative staff who donated their time and spare change to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families. We also wish to congratulate the following classrooms because they earned a School Youth pennant for raising $100 or more: Mrs. Firmery, Mr. Joolingen, Ms. Markgraaff, Ms. Watts, and Mrs. Williams. Most of all congratulations to Mrs. Uy’s preschool class for raising $490.86. As the top fundraising class, they will celebrate with a pasta party generously donated by The Leukemia Lymphoma Society’s community partner, Olive Garden Restaurants. Del Rio Elementary School’s participation makes a difference and brings The Leukemia Lymphoma Society one penny closer to a cure for blood cancer by 2015!
State Superintendent of Public Education Visits Del Rio!
Superintendent O’Connell visited a number of classrooms and spoke with staff members, including cafeteria lead Phillina Towry, who earlier this week was named one of two OUSD Classified Employees of the Year. Joining him on his tour of the newly modernized campus were Emily Ortiz Wichman, president of the OUSD Board of Trustees, board member Dr. Adrianne Hakes, Superintendent Larry Perondi and Del Rio Principal Marie Higareda de Ochoa. Pictured Above: State Superintendent O’Connell lends a hand to some kindergarten students in the classroom of Linda DiVerde.
